Siena College Assistant Professor of Computer Science in Loudonville, New York

Location: Loudonville, NY Category: Faculty Positions Posted On: Wed Jan 10 2024 Job Description:

The Computer Science Department of Siena College invites applications for a tenure-track position to start in the Fall 2024 semester. We are seeking an effective and enthusiastic educator who demonstrates professional expertise, excellence in teaching, and the ability to advise and communicate effectively with undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds. Assistant professors are responsible for the following:

Teaching: teach various courses at the undergraduate level in the Computer Science area

Research: publish peer-reviewed research and involve students in their research.

Service: serve on various college/school/department committees, and participate actively in your research area, such as peer review and serving on conference committees.

About the Department:

The Computer Science Department has 11 full-time tenured faculty and four full-time contingent faculty who support eight tracks within the major: Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Education, Entrepreneurship, Foundations of Computer Science, Game Development, Information Systems, and Software Engineering. We also support three minors (Computer Science, Information Systems, and Multimedia) and a Certificate in Computer Science. Furthermore, the department offers many courses in support of the interdisciplinary Data Science major and minor. Currently, the department has over 140 undergraduate majors. Our courses feature hands-on computing in small classes, where laboratory experiences and close faculty-student interaction are essential.

Building a fun and challenging learning atmosphere is one of our priorities. Our faculty supervise various academic clubs, such as ACM-W, CyberSecurity Club, and CS Club, to help students find their true interests and dive in. Several of our courses give students opportunities to showcase their work in campus-wide poster sessions and other venues; e.g., in RoboShow, students demonstrate the innovative robotics projects they proposed and built through one semester. For those high school students who want to explore the world of Computer Science, we collaborate with local high schools to boost their CS programs by providing teacher training and offering dual enrollment courses. We also host an annual programming contest attracting over 400 high school students from around the region. To help students bridge the gap between college education and research ability for solving real-world problems, we prepare students to achieve high performance via internships, offer them rich experiences in challenging research projects funded by DOD, NSF, internal Siena College grants, etc., and advise them in independent projects. The department is housed in the School of Science; see www.siena.edu/cs for more information about the department.

Annual Salary: $93,330 for a hire with a terminal degree

$60,000 for hire with a master's level degree

The hiring salary above represents the College's good faith estimate at the time of posting in compliance with the Albany County Salary Transparency Law.

Job Requirements:

The applicant must have a Ph.D. or the equivalent terminal degree (or hold ABD with the expected degree completion by the time of appointment), in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline. Candidates with any areas of specialization are encouraged to apply, especially those with interests in any of the areas that comprise the specialized tracks available to our majors.

A background screening will be required.
